The Tokugawa shogunate (Japanese: 徳川幕府) also known as the Edo shogunate (Japanese: 江戸幕府) was an Japanese feudal shogunate that lasted from 1603 to 1868, it was founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu, three years after the Battle of Sekighara, one of the penultimate events of the Sengoku period.
