The Thuggee was a society of Indian assassins that fell into decline in the early half of the 19th century.
Suspecting the Thugs of having ties to the Assassin Brotherhood, British Major-General and Master Templar Sir William Henry Sleeman moved to suppress the group, leading a campaign from 1835 to 1839. However, Sleeman was unable to find a connection between the Thuggee and the Assassins.
