Arno Dorian

Arno Victor[1] Dorian (1768 – unknown) was a French-Austrian Assassin during the time of the French Revolution.

An orphan who blamed himself for the death of his adoptive father, Arno sought redemption by joining the Assassin Order in 1789. He worked to expose the true instigators behind the Revolution sweeping France.[2][3]

Biography

Born to an Austrian mother and French father, Arno was raised in Versailles, a small city just outside of Paris, until his father was murdered when Arno was eight years old; some time later, Arno's adoptive father also died in a similar manner. Wracked by guilt and blaming himself, he sought out the Assassins as a way to gain redemption, helping those suffering similar injustice.[4]

Equipment and skills

Arno was a witty, brash and charismatic Assassin, but he was also known to be stealthy and ruthless. He wore a dark blue hooded coat, waistcoat, and breeches with leather gaiters, rather than the stockings which were popular in his time. He used the Phantom Blade, effectively a wrist-mounted crossbow that fired poison darts, as well as a French cutlass and a multi-barreled pistol. A dynamic leader and a skilled swordsman, Arno stopped at nothing to uncover the truth about the forces controlling the Revolution for their own gain.[3]

Trivia

  • Arno's name is a derivative of German Arnold and French Arnaud. Its old German origin is Arenwald, which means "eagle power", from arn "eagle" and wald "power" or "governing". Victor is Latin for "conqueror", while Dorian is a Greek name meaning "gifted".
