The Iga Rebellion (1579–1581) was the failed resistance of Iga Province against the invasions of Oda Nobunaga during the Sengoku period.[1] Oda first invaded Iga in 1579,[2] but his army fell into an ambush set by Iga shinobi.[1] He met with much greater success when he returned in 1581 with his new retainer Yasuke, razing down settlements across the province and all but destroying the Iga.[2] In a twist of fate, one of the surviving ninja, Fujibayashi Naoe, later joined forces with Yasuke to pursue common goals.[3]
