Temple of Zeus

The Temple of Zeus was a temple dedicated to the god Zeus in the Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece. It was known for containing the renowned statue of Zeus built by Phidias, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The temple was also where victorious athletes were crowned at the end of the Olympic Games.

History

During the Peloponnesian War the temple was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
