The Statue of Zeus within the Temple of Zeus in the Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece, was a large statue of the god Zeus made by the sculptor Phidias around 435 BCE.
Featuring the god seated on a richly decorated throne, the gold and ivory statue held the goddess Nike on his right hand, and a staff topped with the god's signature eagle in his left hand. It was grand enough to be considered one of the Wonders of the World.[1]
During the 428 BCE Olympic Games, the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the temple and the statue with her friend and the captain of the Adrestia, Barnabas.[2]
