The Statue of Zeus

The Statue of Zeus within the Temple of Zeus in the Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece, was a large statue of the god Zeus made by the sculptor Phidias around 435 BCE.

Featuring the god seated on a richly decorated throne, the statue is shown holding the goddess Nike on his right hand, and a staff topped with an eagle in his left hand. It was grand enough to be considered one of the Wonders of the World.[1]

During the 428 BCE Olympic Games the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the temple and the statue with her friend Barnabas.[2]
