The aunt of Shay Cormac was a native of Dublin, Ireland, who immigrated to America with the rest of her family, eventually settling in New York City.[1] Following Shay's birth on 12 September[2] 1731, his aunt took on the responsibility of raising him until the age of eight, since his mother had died during childbirth and his father had little time to care for him due to his employment in the merchant marine.[1]
