Aquilus (died 259) was a Gallo-Roman Assassin sent to assassinate the Roman general Gracchus. He was an ancestor of Desmond Miles.
Biography
Early life
Aquilus was born as the son of Lucius. Lucius, being an Assassin himself, trained his son to follow into his footsteps and fight for the Assassins' cause.[1]
Meeting with Gracchus

As Aquilus entered the Roman camp, he asked to see general Gracchus. He was then directed to the center of the camp, and his message was delivered to the Roman general. Gracchus invited Aquilus in and revealed the fact that he had been expecting Aquilus, knowing that he was the one to murder senator Caius and general Titus, and suspecting he was the Assassin's next target. Aquilus tried to deny it, but was quickly overpowered by the Roman guards and stabbed by general Gracchus.[1]
Return home
When Aquilus regained his consciousness, he was laying on a bed and found his wounds tended to. He soon noticed someone sitting besides him, who introduced himself as his cousin Accipiter. Accipiter explained about the battles that had been waged between them and the Romans, telling Aquilus they had just won one. Aquilus soon asked about the object he was to retrieve, and found out Accipiter had it in his possession. They agreed he would return it as soon as Aquilus would be able to ride a horse again.[2]
Not long after, Aquilus had recovered from his wounds, and the object was returned to him. Aquilus immediately set of for his hometown, Lugdunum. Once arrived, he was greeted by his father Lucius, who stated he hadn't expected Aquilus to return alive. He also met with senator Caius Vultur. Together, they had dinner, and after the senator went to bed, Aquilus and Lucius spoke of the mission. Aquilus handed the mysterious object to his father, who then showed him the Ankh and explained why it was so important to them.[2]
Aquilus also revealed what had happened in the Roman camp, and told his father they were betrayed, after which Lucius told Aquilus it was Faustin who was responsible for this.[2]
Interrogating Faustin
Aquilus immediately set of to interrogate Faustin. He caught him off guard by waking him up in the middle of the night. Faustin soon confessed to betraying them, telling Aquilus he had no choice. When Aquilus asked Faustin about his accomplices, he told he was the only one. This lie resulted in Faustin being beaten up and betraying his accomplice: senator Caius Vultur.[2]
Aquilus hurried back to his father to deliver the bad news, only to find his calls unanswered. Upon further inspection, he found his father murdered. He followed a moaning sound, coming from his father's servant Weke. Weke had been injured badly and could not be saved, but he did say a few last words, which only managed to confuse Aquilus.[2]
A maid then came up to Aquilus, telling him Caius had fled after killing both Lucius and Weke, and had taken the Ankh with him.[2]
Avenging Lucius
Aquilus later travelled to Rome to find and kill the senator. When Aquilus confronted Vultur, He told him to give him the artefact. Vultur, who was begging for his life, told Aquilus the purpose of the Ankh before trying to kill Aquilus. Aquilus, however, managed to kill the senator and left the building. Aquilus later returned home where had a intimate moment with his wife,Valeria, to "celebrate" his return. Thereafter Aquilus told his wife about what had happened and he explained what kind of artefact was. When he tried to activate the Ankh, a message from his dad appeared in which explained what had happened. They were interrupted ,however, bye a group of soldiers who were sent to arrest him and his spouse. They were brought away into a nearby forest were they would be killed and buried. But Accipiter had heard of the arrest and tried to save his cousin. During this assault however The Romans panicked and killed Aquilus. [3]
