A regular soldier

A regular is any basic footsoldier that comprises the bulk of a military. While unspecialized troops have commonly been referred to as such, other names like militia during the Renaissance and grunts in the Ming dynasty have also been used.[1][2][3]

During the American Revolution, British Regulars were derisively referred to as "Redcoats" or "Lobsterbacks" by the Patriots.[4]

At the Ptolemaic Egyptregular infantry was used by the Ptolemaic Army in Egypt and in the Roman Army served in Roman colonies.

The Hoplite infantry was the regular type of soldier in Greece. They Athenian Peltasts and Spartan Phalangites are common types of the Athenian and  Spartan militaries
