The Portuguese Navy (Portuguese: Marinha Portuguesa) is the naval branch of the Portuguese Armed Forces.
History
During the early 18th century, the Portuguese Navy's principle aim was the protection of Portugal's colonial possessions and trade routes. In the year 1719, a Portuguese fleet was travelling through the West Indies when Edward Kenway's Jackdaw infiltrated it, and proceeded to capture their flagship, the Nosso Senhor da Compreensão, on behalf of the pirate Bartholomew Roberts.
