The Porta Aurelia is an Aurelian gate in Rome.
History
This gate of the Aurelian Walls resides on the summit of the Janiculum and was the starting point of the Via Aurelia. Renamed Porta San Pancrazio after Pope Urban VIII remodelled it in the 17th century, the Via Aurelia served as Rome's connection to France during the Republic and Middle Ages and therefore was extremely important for trade.
Trivia

- In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, many of the gates are mislabeled. The north gate of Rome that leads directly into the Piazza del Popolo is marked as the Porta Aurelia as though it is the same gate that would later be called the Porta del Popolo. In the game, the Porta Flaminia, which is the actual name of the Porta del Popolo during this time, is instead given to a gate at the northeastern corner of the Campagna District, which in actuality is called the Porta Salaria—a name that is in turn misapplied to the gate to the immediate east that is in reality the Porta Nomentana. The real Porta Aurelia itself, located in Trastevere, still features in the game but is misnamed the Porta Metronia. The database entry for the Porta Aurelia is factually correct, however.
