Octavia (Latin: Octavia Minor; 69 BCE – 11 BCE) was the elder sister of Octavian, who rose to become the Roman Emperor Augustus.
Prior to Octavian's ascension, the Roman general Marcus Antonius married Octavia in the midst of a civil war. Marcus did so in order to appease the Senate in Rome in light of his relationship to Queen Cleopatra of Egypt, who had previously been the lover of Julius Caesar. Eventually, Antony repudiated Octavia for Cleopatra, much to the dismay of the Roman elite.[1]
