Nāder Shāh Afshār or Nadir Shah (November 1688 or 6 August 1698 – 19 June 1747) was the Shah of Iran from 1736 to 1747 and the founder of the Afsharid dynasty.
In 1739, Nāder Shāh acquired a Piece of Eden in the shape of a diamond when he sacked the Taj Mahal. In awe of its splendor, he named it Koh-i-Noor (English: Mountain of Light). In 1747, Nāder Shāh was assassinated.
