During Ezio Auditore da Firenze's time in Rome, Copernicus visited the Vatican and studied a lunar eclipse that happened in the 1500s. He went from square to square in Rome, teaching the public and talking to them about mathematics and science. The Vatican heard of Copernicus' scientific preaching and decided that all scientists had to be stopped because they taught that science was more important than the church. It was up to Ezio to save Copernicus and the other scholars.

After Ezio rescued Copernicus from an ambush and delivered letters warning Copernicus' fellow scholars of the danger of being attacked, Copernicus informed Ezio of the one most likely behind the attacks, the Master of the Sacred Palace. The Master had never liked Copernicus' ideas, and was likely using his leaving the Templar Order as an excuse to have him killed. Thus, Ezio tracked the friar down and assassinated him, though the Master told him that he too had sent an assassin to kill Copernicus. Ezio rushed back to save Copernicus from the final ones sent to end him, and afterwards, Copernicus was able to continue his research without worry.

Biography

Rome

In 1500, Copernicus visited the Vatican to study a lunar eclipse. He was introduced to and joined the Templar Order, which wanted him to keep the findings of his experiments secret. A day afterwards, though, he enlightened the public on science and mathematics, saying he was unable to keep his findings secret. As soon as the Borgia, the leading house in the Templar Order, heard of this, they sent their guards to kill Copernicus. Ezio Auditore da Firenze, an Assassin, watched the scene unfold and came to Copernicus' rescue.[1]

Copernicus admitted his affiliations to the Templars to Ezio, though the latter was willing to help Copernicus get to a safe location. Upon arriving there, Copernicus asked Ezio to deliver some documents to his fellow scholars, which would inform them of the danger they were in. Ezio returned some time later and by then, Copernicus figured that the Master of the Sacred Palace would've been behind the plot to kill him. Ezio sought out the Master of the Sacred Palace and found that there were five executioners walking around Rome. Ezio rushed to take these executioners down and returned to Copernicus with the confirmation that it was indeed the Master of the Sacred Palace who was plotting to have him killed.[1]

Copernicus, however, was persistent to go out in the open to study a lunar eclipse. The Master of the Sacred Palace took this as an opportunity to kill him and sent an assassin to kill him. Ezio followed and killed the Master of the Sacred Palace before returning to Copernicus, with whom he took down the assassin and some other guards. The pair then went separate ways, with Copernicus staying behind to study the eclipse.[1]
