While readying herself, she stalled to perform until the management gave her the appropriate payment. After some back-and-forth conversations with the theatre's creator, William Niblo, Patti relented after receiving the correct payment and was escorted on stage to perform. After a successful performance, she left to a sitting room, where, she overheard and engaged in conversation about the recent draft initiative and how this may lead to some planning to protest in response.
