New York City is a city in the United States of America.

During the American Revolutionary War, New York was also a stronghold of the British and American armies. It was also greatly damaged due to the Great Fire which burned most of the city into the ground. The Assassin Ratonhnhake:ton frequently visited New York who went there to go after the Templars. There were three Templar forts, one in each district, which could be liberated from their control.

In 2003, after having fled from the Farm, the Assassin hideout in which he had grown up, Desmond ended up living in New York City, working as a bartender at a successful nightclub named Bad Weather.

In 2012, Desmond visited New York again to enter the Grand Temple so he can uncover the key of the temple door which contained the solution to stop a solar flare from burning the Earth.

New York Underground

New York, like Boston, also contain underground tunnels beneath which was built by the Freemasons aswell. The Assassin Connor used it to get to Fort George so he can confront Charles Lee.

Connor also used the tunnels as a way to travel around the city once he discovers the tunnel exit. When in the underground, Connor was equipped with a lantern. This lantern could be used to light torches throughout the tunnel system.

The tunnel entrance can be opened by completing a puzzle. These puzzles include picking a lock, spinning 3 to 5 locks with wheels until they are aligned, or using a projector to allocate symbols into a certain orientation. When using the projector, there were clues that, when analyzed, contained instructions regarding how the Freemasons had to be.

Trivia

• It was intended for Connor be present in New York during the Great Fire of 1776, but it was too difficult to program civilians to react to the burning part of the city, so the event was left out of the game. Although the results of the disaster remains in the rest of the game after that point.
