Abstergo symbol, a Templar cover in modern times

Creating a New World Order was the final goal of Abstergo Industries. It was a goal set to control all the minds and wills of the human race.

History

Ideaology

Vidic: "The world's a mess! It's pathetic, really. You've seen it firsthand yourself. A thousand years between you and your ancestor and society remains just as barbaric, just as stupid."
Desmond: "And your point is..."
Vidic: "Order, Mr. Miles. The world needs order. That is what we are working towards, and that is what you are helping us to achieve."
—Vidic and Desmond about the New World Order.[src]

Governed by the Templars belief that humankind needs order, discipline and control in order to mask its barbaric nature, the Templar Order planned to create a new world in which the Templars possessed absolute control.

In order to set their plan into motion, Abstergo kidnapped Subjects 16 and 17 in order to investigate their genetic memories for the locations to several Pieces of Eden.

The Pieces of Eden themselves are integral to the plans of the Templars; their abilities to influence the minds of people near the operator have been prized since the time of the pre-Sumerians at the latest, judging from their ubiquity in art and warfare of the time.

The possible Higher-ups of Abstergo that govern the entire plan.

The Templars' order would be one of so-called "benign tyranny", as although the Templars would eliminate racism and the petty machinations of the warlords and princes of their time, they would simply replace that disordered chaos with their own arbitrary Order.

The Crusades

This plan seems to have been in existence since the Second Crusade at the latest, as even the first waves of Templars in the siege of Acre in the Third Crusade were already fully aware of the plan.

Moreover, the means by which the Templars mean to establish this Order seem to be unchanging: collect as many Pieces of Eden and other relics of 'Those Who Came Before' as possible, and use them to brainwash the peasantry of the world.

The Apple of Eden, the most important piece of the New World Order.

As their very cause is to collect the fantastic sources of knowledge locked in the Pieces of Eden, the Templars' Order is equipped with some of the most advanced technology of the periods in which it was active; the machinations of Robert de Sable and Garnier de Naplouse during the Third Crusade include the making of drugs and medicines which the world had never before witnessed.

Modern Times

"That's exactly what we're doing! The human race calls out for direction. They want to know why they're here, what they're meant to do, well...we're going to tell them. And once they understand how to live their lives, everything will be better."
―Vidic on what Abstergo aims for with the New World Order.[src]

The proclaimed New World of the Templars seems to be based on the 'utopia' ideal, a world completely free of bigotry, but the Templar ideal seems to differ in the establishment of a small ruling elite controlling all education, military force and food distribution.

The Templars' plan for a New World Order is to use the Pieces of Eden to control every human being on the planet. They plan to launch a Piece of Eden on December 21, 2012 into space, in connection to one of their satellites.

Through the combined power, the Templars can activate it to control the minds of every human being on the planet. The Templars believe that by completely controlling others, they will bring peace to the Earth.

Trivia

A Glyph found in Abstergo's Laboratory explaining the use of Pieces of Eden to control Humanity through the use of Satellites. The square reads: "Artefacts sent to the skies to control all nations, to make us obey a hidden crusade. Do not help them"
  • December 21, 2012 is the date the Mayan Calendar Cycle ends, it is a common belief that the Mayans thought the world would end on this date.
  • Near the end of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, continual references are made to the number 72 – including the fact that there were 72 days left before the Abstergo satellite launch. Other references included Exodus 14:19-21 (the 72 names of God or better known as the Tetragrammatron) and the number 72 being the password to enter the Colosseum Vault. Also, construction on the Colosseum began in 72 AD. Also again, (and coincidentally) Rodrigo Borgia died when he was 72. In Juno's dialog to Desmond inside the Colosseum Vault, she also says that there were 72 days left before "The Awakening".
