Andrew the Apostle (5/10 CE – 60 CE), also called Saint Andrew, was one of the disciples of Jesus Christ and the elder brother of Saint Peter.

Biography

Andrew is said to have been martyred by crucifixion at the city of Patrai in Achaia, in the year 60. Andrew had requested he be crucified on an X-shaped cross, deeming himself unworthy to be crucified on the same type of cross as Jesus had been.[1]

Legacy

In 1650, a church was erected in his honor in Rome.[2]

In 1794, one of the clues Arno Dorian had to solve in order to acquire the Eagle of Suger mentioned Saint Andrew.[3]
