Massachusetts is a state in the northeastern region of the United States, in the area known as New England. Massachusetts is bordered by New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Massachusetts was one of the thirteen colonies that claimed independence from Great Britain during the American Revolutionary War.
