Martha's Vineyard is a small island off the coast of Boston that is part of the Elizabeth Islands.
History
In 1775, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton, better known as Connor, sailed to Martha's Vineyard with first mate Robert Faulkner. The two left from the Davenport Homestead with Connor captaining their ship, the Aquila, which had recently been rebuilt. Martha's Vineyard was originally inhabited by the Wampanoag Native Americans. However, by 1642 the island was purchased by Thomas Mayhew. A little bit later, the first English settlement in the area was created by Thomas Mayhew II.
Once the ship reached the Vineyard pier, the two entered an inn run by Amanda Bailey. After Robert hired two gunnery officers, the group departed the tavern and left the island.
