Maldon (Old English: Maeldun) is a county town of Essexe, England.

History

In 875, Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir was requested by the ealdorman Birstan to travel to the town and find his lost love, Alfida.[1] When she arrived to search for Alfida, Eivor looked for Alfida's house outside the town and found no one in the vicinity except guards. Eivor investigated and found a cowering Eluric, who talked with the warrior and told her that Alfida was taken by King Aelfred's men. Thus, Eivor left and promised to rescue her for both Birstan's and Eluric's sakes.[2]

Surveying the town, Eivor blew up a destructible wall within a house, discovered a chest, opened it, and claimed the Oaken Kite Shield.[3]

Behind the Scenes

According to its name, mǣl means a monument or cross, while dūn means a hill. Thus, it corresponds to a translation of "monument hill".
