After successfully infiltrating the Castel Sant'Angelo, Ezio listnes to an intense argument between Cesare and the Pope. During the argument, Cesare reaches out and picks up an apple from a bowl on the table. Soon after biting into it, his sister, Lucrezia, bursts into the room and tells Cesare that the apple was poisoned. Spitting out the apple, Cesare furiously rams the remanents of the apple down his father's throat, killing him. In an attempt to make Cesare stop, Lucrezia tells him that she knows the location of the Apple of Eden. Cesare then begins to assault Lucrezia, demanding that the location be revealed to him. During this time, Ezio had made his way to an open window and entered the Pope's chambers, however, Cesare had already left. Obtaining the location of the Apple from Lucrezia, Ezio pursued Cesare.
Dialogue
In the Pope's quarters
Cesare:What has happened here?
Rodrigo: I do not know what you mean?
Cesare:My funds, my troops. Gone.
Rodrigo:Financial difficulties strike all of us, even those with an army.
Cesare:You intend to give me money?
Rodrigo:No, I do not.
Cesare:Then I will use the Piece of Eden to get what I want. Your help is not necessary.
Cesare picks up an apple from the table nearby and takes a bite from it.
Rodrigo:That has been made abundantly clear to me. Are you aware that the Baron de Valois is dead?
Cesare:No. Did you--
Rodrigo:What reason could I possibly have to kill him? Was he plotting against me with my "brilliant," traitorous, Captain General?
Cesare thrusts the poisoned apple in hand into Rodrigo Borgia's mouth. Rodrigo struggles to release himself.
Cesare:Where is the Piece of Eden?
Lucrezia tries to stop Cesare from killing their father.
Lucrezia:Stop! I know where it is.
Cesare:And you did not tell me he had taken it? (He grabs her by the neck.)
Lucrezia:Cesare...It's me...your queen.
Cesare:You are my sister. Nothing more. Where is it?
Lucrezia:You...never loved me?
Cesare:Where is the Apple? Tell me.
Lucrezia spits on his face. He slaps her.
Cesare:Tell me!
Cesare and Lucrezia
Ezio witnesses the death of Rodrigo Borgia by the hands of his son Cesare Borgia. Ezio moves to find a way into the quarters, while Cesare questions Lucrezia.
Ezio: (To himself.) All right, Cesare. I am coming through that window.
Cesare:I want the Apple!
Lucrezia continues to cry.
Cesare:Am I hurting you? Give me the Apple! It is mine, not yours. Where is the Apple?
She gives in eventually and tells Cesare the location of the artifact.
Cesare:Smart decision, little sister.
Cesare leaves to retrieve the Apple. Ezio enters the quarters through the open window and approaches Rodrigo Borgia, now lying dead on the floor.
Ezio:Requiescat in pace. (Rest in peace.) (He closes Rodrigo's eyes.)
Lucrezia:I know... I know where that bastard is going. San Pietro (Saint Peters)... The pavilion in the courtyard.
Ezio:Thank you.
The Apple
Cesare locks the door on Ezio.
Ezio leaves the Pope's quarters to find the artifact. He tries to exit the Castel through it's front gates, however he runs into Cesare on his way out.
Cesare:Assassino! (Assassin!)
Ezio:Cazzo (fuck).
Cesare:I will come for you later.
He locks Ezio inside the gates. However Ezio tries to find another way out of the Castel. He reaches the rooftop and jumps on to the ramparts to follow Cesare.
Outcome
Ezio learns the location of the Apple and races against Cesare to get to it first.
