Laureano de Torres y Ayala (1645 – 1722) was the Spanish Governor of Florida from 1693 to 1699, Governor of Cuba on two occasions between 1707 and 1716, and the Grand Master of the Templar Order in the Caribbean.
Early life
Laureano de Torres y Ayala was born in Havanna Cuba in 1645 to the nobles Tomas Torres y Ayala and Bvira de Quadros Castelanos. Laureano was raised in Madrid Spain, going on to join the Spanish army in his teens and eventually being appointed governor of the Spanish territories in Florida, a post he held 1693-1699. He then returned to Europe to participate in the Spanish war of Succession.
Alongside fellow Templars Julien du Casse and Woodes Rogers, Torres plotted to use the Sage Bartholomew Roberts to gain access to the Observatory, in order to control the European Empires from behind the scenes.
The Search for the Observatory
By 1715 Torres had learnt of and began searching for a First Civilisation site known as the Observatory. Torres arranged for an Assassin by the name of Duncan Walpole to defect from the Assassins and deliver to him maps which showed the locations of the Assassin Bureaus in the West Indies, as well as a Blood Vial containing the blood of a Sage (the only known person who can locate the Observatory. Along with fellow Templars Julien du Casse and Woodes Rogers, Torres plotted to use the Sage Bartholomew Roberts to gain access to the Observatory, in order to control the European Empires from behind the scenes. Unbeknownst to Torres however Duncan Walpole had been killed by the pirate Edward Kenway, who arrived in Havanna impersonating Walpole inorder to deliver the maps and blood vial and claim the reward mentioned in a letter from Torres to Walpole Edward found on Walpole's body.
Oblivious to this Torres formally inducted 'Walpole', Rogers and Du Casse into the Templar Order before explaining his plans to locate and use the Observatory to bring the World Empires under Templar control. Torres was later killed by the pirate turned Assassin Edward Kenway in the Observatory, while he attempted to access the First Civilization site.
