Kybele was an Anatolian goddess of fertility and nature who was later assimilated into Greek mythology. Her Greek equivalent is Rhea.
In various stories, Kybele was known as the one who initiated the god of wine, Dionysos, into mysteries and ecstasy. She was also extensively worshipped on the Greek island of Lesbos,[1] where a temple dedicated to her was built within the Vineyard Canyon.[2]
