Ishaq was an architect active in early to mid-9th century Samarra, then the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate. He was the father to Basim Ibn Ishaq.
Biography
Though responsible for the construction of the Great Mosque of Samarra, his credit was stolen by another man, with Ishaq being exiled and later dying in poverty.[1] With Ishaq's death, Basim became an orphan who grew up in the streets of Baghdad, his mother having died years earlier when he was a child.[2]
Personality and traits
When talking with Hytham during a mission in Constantinople in 867, Basim described his father as someone who "had no love in him for his son", saying that he had nothing but violence to pass on to him.[3]
