Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté (29 September 1758 – 21 October 1805) was an officer in the Royal Navy famous for his victories in the Napoleonic Wars.

Nelson was involved in the French Revolutionary Wars and was a commander in the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, the Battle of the Nile and the Battle of Copenhagen.

In 1805, Nelson led the Royal Navy at the Battle of Trafalgar against the French and Spanish navies. After being shot, he was mortally wounded and died three hours later. Despite his death, the battle was a major victory for the British and Nelson became known as one of Britain's greatest war heroes. His victories were commemorated on Nelson's Column at Trafalgar Square in London.
