The Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy was the group of 7 kingdoms that controlled the land that is now England. The collapse of the Heptarchy began in 829CE when Wessex annexed Essex, Kent, and Sussex.[1]
Trivia
- The kingdoms of East Anglia, Mercia, and Northumbria would eventually merge with Wessex following the Vikings' invasion with the Great Heathen Army marking the creation of a unified England.
- The Norman Invasion of England in 1066 ended all Anglo-Saxon rule in England.
