Gotafrid Fairrobes (died 870s) was a Norse drengr who served as one of the five trusted lieutenants of Ragnar Lothbrok during the early Viking incursions into England in the mid 9th century.

Biography

Gotafrid was a celebrated drengr who was personally taught by Ragnar to keep his dignity both in battle and in his equipment's upkeep. Follow Ragnar's passing, Gotafrid would maintain this "self-respect" and went one to join to Great Heathen Army,[1] whose leaders included those of Ragnar's own sons.[2]

After amassing a substantial amount of wealth, Gotafrid retired from the Great Heathen Army and built an estate east of the Petuaria Ruins in Eurvicscire.[1] Without a cause or goal,[3] he sought a warrior willing to take part in a honorable and clean battle to the death. Eventually, he encountered the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, who accepted his challenge. After a long fight, Eivor managed to defeat him, ending his life and sending him to meet with Ragnar in Valhalla.[1]
