Biography

Early life

Galina and twin sister were born to an Assassin scientist who worked in one of the Assassin Science Cities, facilities used by the Assassins for research since the early 20th century. However, most of the Assassin Science Cities were eradicated over the years, as the Templars's hold on the nation grew stronger. Having built an Animus based on blueprints she'd received from a fellow Assassin, Galina's mother was losing hope by 1991, as she had gained very little knowledge of the machine's purpose, with the few subjects that had used it emerging as madmen.[1]

Eventually, she utilized the Animus herself and was subsequently driven insane, even claiming to speak to Eve. She subsequently forced the other members of her cell into the machine, among them her two daughters, causing them to become just as deranged as she.[2] Unlike the others, Galina did not go crazy and used the Bleeding Effect to learn from her ancestors.[3]

Matricide

Escaping the laboratory, Galina made contact with Gavin Banks, Emmett and Emmanuel Barraza, Assassins from the Altair II, on the 16th of March in Moscow and asked them to assassinate her mother.[2] Reconvening with the trio of Assassins two days later to discuss plans, she managed to convince Gavin into aiding her. During their meeting, Emmett attempted to explain to her that her mother couldn't have been speaking to Eve, as experiences in the Animus were purely passive, though Galina did not seem convinced.[4]

Accompanied by her new allies, Galina journeyed back to Protvino, which was crawling with feral Assassins, and broke into the laboratory. Although she had requested the back-up of Gavin and his team, Galina hardly needed help, using her two Hidden Blades to effortlessly kill their attackers, among them her twin sister. Eventually they found Galina's babbling mother strapped to the ancient Animus she had constructed, in a room filled with monitors. As Galina knelt down next to her mother, Emmett watched the screens, believing to see a face[5] in them. When Galina ended her mother's life, the face cried out, before vanishing.[6]

Following the assassination of her mother, Galina was convinced by Gavin to join him aboard the Altair II, as her Brotherhood had become practically non-existent. Traveling with him to St. Petersburg, she met the rest of the boat's crew on the 26th of March.[3]

Trivia

  • Galina is derived from the Ancient Greek galene, meaning "calm". It's also used as a Russian variant of Helen, a Greek name that means "shining brightly". The root voro from her surname means "thief".
  • Galina wears a necklace in the shape of the Russian Assassins' insignia.
