Francisco de la Cuesta (1661 – 1724) was the twelfth Archbishop of Manila from 1707 to 1722 and acting Governor-General of the Philippines from 1719 to 1721.[1]

Biography

In 1719, then-Governor-General Fernando Manuel de Bustillo Bustamante y Rueda had de la Cuesta and his monks rounded up and imprisoned. In response, the Archbishop's congregation stormed the Governor-General's mansion and murdered him in the streets.[2] Following Bustamante's assassination, de la Cuesta succeeded him as the new Governor-General.[1]
