Fall of Chang'an: Difference between revisions
imported>Sol Pacificus This wasn't the penultimate event of the war; it continued for 6 more years after Lushan's death. Li Longji never made another empress after his first one died (hence why Yang Guifei wasn't an empress), Chongren District is perfectly fine of a translation but scholarship usually translates the 坊 of Chang'an and Kyoto as 'ward'. @Darman, it was the wrong chapter. I know it may be an honest mistake but remember not to add citations for sources you can't read or don't have access to. |

I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name? This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given. |
The Fall of Chang'an at the height of the An Lushan Rebellion was the sacking of the Tang imperial capital on 17 July 756[1] upon its capture by the Yan forces of jiedushi An Lushan. This occurred a few days[2] after Tang Emperor Xuanzong fled the city with his royal entourage of closest family members, the Army of Dragon Warriors, and trusted officials, several members of whom were secretly Golden Turtles.[3] With their departure, the eunuch Bian Lingcheng was put in charge of the city's defences as regent by Chancellor Yang Guozhong in what was really a conscious decision to consign him to death.[2]
The rebels plundered the city for three days and nights, killing many citizens within the city walls. An Lushan's admiral Sun Xiaozhe slaughtered many members of the royal family, including the eldest princess, the Princess of Huo (霍國公主); the Emperor's concubines; the princesses' husbands (駙馬); and many more at Chongren Ward (崇仁坊) in revenge for An Lushan's favourite son An Qingzong,[1] who had been executed by the Tang a year earlier.[4] Despite desperately pleading that he would swear loyalty to Lushan's dynastic regime, Bian Lingcheng was also executed.[1]
