Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449 – 11 January 1494) was an Italian Renaissance painter.
Running a large workshop in Florence, Ghirlandaio was briefly the teacher of Michelangelo. In 1483, Pope Sixtus IV commissioned the former and several other painters to create a series of frescos on the walls of the Sistine Chapel.[1] Michelangelo praised the frescoes, hoping to see them one day. Two years later, Ghirlandaio was commissioned to paint frescoes of the life of Saint Francis in the Sassetti Chapel at the Santa Trinita.[2]
