Charlotte Gouze (fl. 1790's) was a member of the French Brotherhood of Assassins and the manager of the Café Théâtre, an intelligence-gathering network of the Brotherhood in Paris. During the end of the 18th century, the Café Théâtre fell into near-ruin.
Charlotte Gouze had a collaborative relationship with the fencing master of the Café and fellow Assassin, Augustin Grisier.
Biography
In January 1791, Charlotte met the Assassin apprentice Arno Dorian who visited the Café and gave him the stewardship of the building.[1] During the following years, Arno renovated the Café while Charlotte gave him missions though the city.[2]
During the French Revolution, a royalist crime gang, Les Actes des Apôtres, began to commit crimes in Paris, like burning religious manuscripts. Charlotte sent Arno to deal with them.[3] Later, she recruited Colette, an informant who spied members of Les Actes des Apôtres, and the dressmaker Rose Bertin, to make the costumes of the Café Théâtre's actors, but the two were targeted by Les Actes des Apôtres. As before, she sent Arno to save them.[4][5] Next time, Charlotte tried to get the stolen Sancy diamond from the crime gang via an agent and tasked Arno to supervise.[6] She ultimately wanted Arno to kill Renard, the leader of Les Actes des Apôtres.[7]
