Charles Lee (1732 – 1782) was a member of the Templar Order and a British soldier, who later served as a General of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.

He served in the British Army during the Seven Years War, after which he sold his commission, and served for a time in the Polish army of King Stanislaus II.

Biography

In 1773, Lee, who had Whig views, moved to America and bought an estate in Virginia. When the fighting broke out during the American Revolution in 1775, he volunteered to serve with rebel forces.

However, his ambitions to become Commander in Chief of the Continental Army were thwarted by the appointment of George Washington.

Start of a Templar

When Haytham Kenway first arrived in Boston, it was Charles Lee who assisted him, despite the fact that Lee was not a Templar. Due to his work helping Haytham recruit the needed individuals for his expedition to the Grand Temple, Haytham permitted Charles to join the Templars at the end of Sequence 3.

American Revolution

When Connor was a young boy, Charles Lee was one of the men who attacked and burned his village, resulting in the death of Connor's mother. He first attacked the young Connor to find his village and ordered William Johnson to knock the boy out once he had what he wanted.

Years later, Charles had risen to the rank of Haytham's second-in-command, providing assistance to many other Templars and once again knocking Connor out in prison when Connor was attempting to prevent Thomas Hickey's plot to kill George Washington.

Decoy

When Connor attacked Fort George in the hope of finding Lee there, he was instead confronted by Haytham, who had secretly sent Charles away from the fort, as he had expected Connor to assassinate Lee there.

Assassination

After Haytham's assassination, Charles attempted to flee back to Europe. Connor confronted him at the docks and chased him through the docks and a burning boat, the case ending when the floor collapsed underneath them and both sustained injuries. Lee was injured by the falling planks and Connor's side was impaled by a wooden pole. Charles asked Connor why he continued to fight despite the apparent futility of his actions. Connor replied it was because no-one else would as he shot Lee in the stomach before falling unconscious.

After he woke up, Connor tracked Lee downriver to an inn. Lee sat calmly at a table, offering Connor a drink which was accepted. Charles took one last drink and accepted his fate before Connor stabbed him in the heart.
