The exterior of the Cave of the Nymphs

The Cave of the Nymphs is a small cave located on the Greek island of Ithaka.

In Greek mythology, the cave served as a shelter for the Naiads, young nymphs who dwell in various water bodies, and who were said to spin sea into fine purple cloth. Odysseus, the legendary King of Ithaka, prayed in the cave upon his return from the Trojan War.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the cave was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra during her time on the island.[2]
