The Cave of Potnia Theron was a cave in the Hunted Forest of Artemis on the island Chios, Greece.
Located by the Huntress Village, the cave was inhabited by a lone bear. During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the place.[1]
Behind the name
The name of the cave, a location in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, references the term Potnia Theron (Mistress of the Animals) used by the author Homer to describe female divinities associated with animals, especially the Greek goddess Artemis.
