Camp Menouthis was a military camp in the east of Kanopos Nome in Ptolemaic Egypt. Located by the water border next to Herakleion Nome, the camp was captained by soldiers secretly under the influence of the Roman general Gaius Julius Rufio.
History[edit | edit source]
Around 38 BCE, Rufio instructed a cart loaded with luxurious goods to depart from Camp Menouthis, to be used as inducements to bribe Egyptian soldiers to his cause. The Hidden One Bayek, having learned of Rufio's plans from a note he found at Saragina Camp, intercepted and destroyed the cart.[1] At the same time, Bayek also eliminated the captain and looted the treasures within the camp.[2]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The camp's name may be a reference to the city of Menouthis which, by the 2nd century BCE, had largely sunk due to the rising sea levels, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
