Thorstein the Red (c. 850 – 880/890), also known as Thorstein Olafsson, was a Viking chieftain active in Ireland and later Scotland during the 9th century.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Thorstein was born around 850 as the son of Olaf the White, King of Dublin, and Aud the Deep-minded, who was the daughter of Ketil Flatnose.[1] By 879, Thorstein was the leader of a gang. The jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan captured him after her cousin Bárid mac Ímair was attacked by his men.[2]
