"I don't have any record of Connor actually meeting Paine, but I thought you'd like to know about him as his words played such a crucial role in the revolution."
―Shaun Hastings' database note on Paine, 2012.[src]-[m]

Thomas Paine (1737 – 1809) was a British political activist, philosopher, author, and political theorist who participated in both the American Revolution and the French Revolution.[1]

His 1776 book Common Sense argued against the British Empire's rule of the American colonies in simple terms that civilians could understand, swelling support for the Continental Congress during the American Revolutionary War.[2][3]

Paine moved to France in 1790 after its revolution broke out. He was arrested and imprisoned in 1793.[2][3] The French Assassin Arno Dorian attempted to rescue him, but Paine stated that he wanted to remain imprisoned as a matter of principle, referring to the political repercussions of such a rescue.[4]
