I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name? This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given. |
The father (died 1747) of Shay Cormac was an Irish sailor from Dublin who immigrated to New York City with the rest of his family. He was employed in the merchant marine, and tutored his son in seafaring until his untimely death during Shay's teenage years.[1]
Biography[edit | edit source]
A native of Dublin, Ireland, he and his family immigrated to the British colonies in America in the early 18th century, settling in New York. There, his wife gave birth to their son Shay in 1731, but died from complications shortly thereafter.[1]
Widowed, Shay's father had little time to care for his son due to his work in the merchant marine, leaving Shay to be raised by his aunt. By 1739, when Shay was eight years old, his father allowed him to join him at sea to earn his own wages. During their time at sea, they encountered pirates several times. In one such instance, Shay was forced to shoot a pirate captain during a fight. However, tragedy struck in 1747 when a fierce storm claimed the lives of Shay's father and much of their crew.[1]
His death had a devastating effect on Shay, who fell into a deep depression, wandering the streets of New York looking for fights until he encountered his friend, Liam O'Brien, who recruited him into the Colonial Brotherhood of Assassins, giving Shay a new purpose.[1]
