Runa Egilsdottir was a Viking leader of a group of Norse warriors in 9th-century Cent, England.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Not much is known about Runa's background, except that she found herself to be in charge of a collective of Norse warriors by 874.[1]

After Runa and her warriors were captured on the order of thegn Tedmund, they were eventually rescued by the Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq and the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir, who learned about their predicament from Tedmund's body double Shergar.[1]

After freeing Runa, Eivor and Basim requested her help to besiege Rouecistre Fortress, but Runa remarked that most of her clan had been killed by Tedmund's men and her remaining forces were not enough to capture the fort. When her rescuers asked that she at least give them the armors and weapons of her fallen warriors, she staunchly refused.[1]

Eventually, a reluctant Runa was convinced by Basim that the weapons could be used to enact vengeance against her clan's killers. Runa then revealed that she had a fleet that could be used in the siege, but it had been halted by the Rouecistre Blockade. Eivor volunteered to deal with the blockade while Runa was asked to find Abbot Cynebert and tell him about the planned siege so he could prepare his forces.[1]
