A statue of Ptah, in Kerke

Ptah is an ancient Egyptian god of craftsmen and architects. He is the spouse of Sekhmet, the goddess of fertility. He was also regarded as the father of Imhotep.

During the 1st century BCE, Ptah's worship by Egyptians was centered in the city of Memphis, where a Great Temple complex was built in his name.[1]

In 48 BCE, the High Priest of the Great Temple was Pasherenptah; during his time, the gods seemed to curse the city, for a foul stench seemed to fill the place, the Apis Bull fell ill, and the High Priest's wife Taimhotep miscarried thrice. All this came to an end when the Medjay Bayek of Siwa came to investigate,[2] Pasherenptah called upon an aspect of the god, Ptah-Nun, the father who made Atum, to bless Bayek before he destroyed the source of all the ails: the Order of the Ancients member known as The Lizard.[3]
