Matsu's Katana

Matsu's Katana was a katana belonging to the Igan Matsu, which she wielded in her early days as a member of the Iga ikki.

History[edit | edit source]

After retiring and believing that Iga would know peace for good, Matsu relinquished the katana and hid it in a shrine near her house. Eventually, on the eve of Oda Nobukatsu's incursion into Iga on 6 October 1579, Matsu entrusted the sword to Fujibayashi Naoe, who wished to help in defending Iga. Naoe would go on to use the katana to kill a number of Nobukatsu's soldiers in the fight,[1] and continued to carry the sword for years afterwards.[2]
