Nafpaktos (Greek: Ναύπακτος) is a port city in Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece, situated on a bay on the north coast of the Gulf of Korinth.
History[edit | edit source]
During the Renaissance, Nafpaktos was one of the territories controlled by the Republic of Venice and was known as Lepanto to the Venetians.[1]
In 1499, the Ottoman Empire defeated Venice during the Battle of Zonchio and seized Lepanto, Modone, and Corone.[2]
