Laios was a young Greek man living during the 5th century BCE.
Biography[edit | edit source]
During the Peloponnesian War, he learned of a precious Makedonian bracelet left as an offering to the gods at an altar in the Sanctuary of Sounion. Thinking his beloved Hyakinthos would like it, Laios stole the bracelet and gave it to Hyakinthos.[1]
Instead of appreciating the gift, Hyakinthos was appalled by Laios' deed, and threw the bracelet into the sea. The couple began to argue, and soon afterwards, they were approached by the Spartan misthios Kassandra. She had been sent by Xenia, the pirate ruler of Keos, to fetch the bracelet.[1]
