Kōriyama Castle

Kōriyama Castle was a castle[1] in northwestern Yamato, Japan.[2] Its ruins have been designated as a protected National Historic Site since 2023.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke arrived at the castle after obtaining a stolen holy script from rogue Akiyama soldiers. Upon their arrival, they heard Tsutsui Junkei almost declare war against Akiyama Ayako and berate the abbot Hara Joken for his incompetence. When they returned the lost script, Junkei held off his plans temporarily while Joken thanked them for their help before they left.[3]

Naoe and Yasuke later returned and infiltrated the castle after learning that Junkei's merchant advisor was party to a conspiracy to create havoc between the Tsutsui and Akiyama clans. Within the advisor's small residence, they found an assassinated him and recovered the bow Dragon's Wrath from his personal effects as well as a note about his fellow agent working as a blacksmith.[4]

While there, Yasuke then recovered the Tsutsui clan's kamon within the tenshu[5] and one of Kanō Eitoku's lost paintings.[6] Then, he and Naoe eliminated four samurai daisho, looted the Legendary Onna-musha Headband from the castle's treasure chest, and climbed atop the tenshu to survey the province.[2]
