Kastalian Fountain

The Kastalian Fountain is a small spring located near the Sanctuary of Delphi in the slopes of Grand Mount Parnassos in Phokis, Greece.

History[edit | edit source]

As the spring was considered sacred, everyone who wished to consult the oracle of Apollo at the temple had wash themselves in its waters first. This included not only the pilgrims, but the priests and the Pythia herself as well.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the spring was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2] It was also where she met Herodotos after discovering the Cult of Kosmos.[3]
