Amenhotep II was the seventh pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt.
Amenhotep II built a second temple dedicated for the Sphinx-as-Horemakhet, to pay homage to his predecessors Khufu and Khafre. It became a common habit for this dynasty to spend time with their royal courts at the Sphinx.[1]
Egyptologist Mark Lehner believed that Amenhotep II built a statue of himself between the paws of the Sphinx to legitimize his reign.[2] Egyptologists also believe that the facial likeness of the Sphinx of Memphis resembles Amenhotep II.[3]
