The Hôtel des Menus-Plaisirs is an hôtel particulier in Versailles, France.
History[edit | edit source]
The Hôtel des Menus-Plaisirs was constructed under Louis XVI of France to house the activities of the Menus-Plaisirs du Roi, an organization in charge of royal ceremonies and parties.[1] The hôtel is best known for hosting the Estates-General of 1789.[1][2]
During the French Revolution, the building served as a courthouse, barracks, and center for the distribution of bread. After it was purchased[1] by a Mr. Dubusc[3] in 1800, many of the historical rooms, including the assembly hall of the Estates-General, were torn down. Today, it houses the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles.[1]
